Before we get to this week’s episode with McKenna, here’s a reminder about our live recording with Brady Scott tonight (Thursday, Feb. 20) at the Hutchinson Public Library. We’ll gather at 5:30, start recording at 6 - with a Q & A session at the end of our podcast. Then we’ll spend a few minutes hanging out for anyone who wants some extra time to visit.
I know it’s cold this morning, but it will be a balmy 10 degrees or so by 6 p.m. tonight. We kicked around the idea of postponing tonight’s recording, but most of the world has opened back up today after two days of our pure frozen hellscape. I hope to see you all there, but if you don’t feel good about getting out, put your safety first.
Now, for the show…
Christopher and I first met McKenna while recording downtown during the Dog Days of Summer Third Thursday event last August. We wanted to record audio snippets of people talking about their dogs, when we noticed this teenager walking around with a parrot on her shoulder.
When the then 16-year-old McKenna sat down to visit with us, we quickly realized there was a much bigger story to be told. This wasn't just someone with a pet parrot - this was someone who has a passion for birds and is actively working to build a career in training big birds. You can hear that episode here
It took a few months, but we finally brought McKenna into the studio to tell us more about her love of birds, and the adventures she's had traveling the United States learning how to raise, care for, and train birds.
You can also follow McKenna's fun and light-hearted feathered tales at her Instagram - it's filled with cute pictures of birds and funny comedic bits. I think you’ll enjoy listening to our conversation with McKenna.
